Illinois State Police prepared to assist Missouri following grand jury announcement
FARIVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Troopers across the state of Illinois are prepared to cross state lines and help their Missouri counterparts if police in the St. Louis area request it following the grand jury announcement.
It is rare for state units to travel outside of state lines to offer assistance but they will when there is a disaster or crisis.
“The Illinois State Police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of the citizens of Illinois,”
Illinois State Police Director Hiram Grau said. “At this time, our public safety role is to ensure the lawful and safe expression of First Amendment rights. We will continue to monitor this fluid situation and provide the necessary support to our law enforcement partners as the need arises.”
Illinois State Police officials say they want to reassure residents that their officers are highly trained and prepared to handle unexpected situations.
