Rep.: U.S. Chamber of Commerce Seeks ‘to Exploit People for Profit… Just So They Can Keep Labor Costs Down’ at Fortune 500sBy Barbara Boland
One doesn't usually associate Republicans with public railing against "corporate interests seeking to exploit people for profit" - but yesterday, Michigan Republican Rep. Kerry Bentivolio put out a press release that did just that. "It is with great pride that I reject [the U.S. Chamber of Commerce] award, and call on them to stand on the side of America, instead of on the side of China and corporate interests seeking to exploit people for profit."
"The U.S. Chamber is in the pocket of Communist China and big companies seeking cheap labor in the United States," said Rob Wasinger, Bentivolio's chief of staff, in a press release. "We think it is morally repugnant for the chamber to pursue, as a matter of public policy, initiatives which exploit the poor and oppressed, just so they can keep labor costs down for their Fortune 500 member companies."
"In the past two months, the Chamber has made it clear that it is mostly interested in promoting and passing legislation granting amnesty to millions of illegal aliens," he said.
Bentivolio is returning the Spirit of Enterprise Award he received from the U.S. Chamber in March this year along with other congressmen.
In May, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Michigan Chamber of Commerce endorsed Bentivolio's primary challenger, attorney Dave Trott (as did Mitt Romney.)
