FL. gun store Family Firearms recently used an image of Will Ferrell’s iconic Buddy the Elf character to advertise its Winter Wonderland AR-15 sale. Apparently the stunt didn’t go over so well with the openly pro-gun control actor and the studio that produced the film.
TMZ reports that when news of the ad reached Ferrell and the studio, the studio quickly sent a cease and desist letter to Family Firearms. The store replaced the image of Buddy with a generic elf, but left his trademark phrase, “son of a nutcracker.”
In 2012 Ferrell appeared along with other celebrities in the “Demand a Plan” video, which called for increased gun control, citing Columbine, Virginia Tech, Newtown and other gun violence tragedies and declaring, “Enough.” The video was immediatelyridiculed for Hollywood's hypocrisy on gun violence:
